On Sunday 11th April, 300 Baptist Christians from Isle of Wight Churches gathered together at the Medina Centre Newport for an All Island Baptist Celebration. This was resurrecting an earlier practice which had ceased over recent years. With programmes for children & Young people, this all age event took on the feel of a Spring Harvest gathering - albeit smaller! A very proficient worship group led our praise & worship sensitively, enabling us to respond appropriately to the mix of traditional & contemporary songs & hymns. Musicians included: keyboard, guitars, flute, violin, trombone, drums, percussion & singers! A drama group challenged us in a humourous manner about the role & task of church in 21st Century! Various ministers read bible passages & prayed. Regional Team Leader for the Baptist Southern Region, Rev Grenville Overton, spoke about the risen Jesus challenging Peter to love and serve from John Chapter 21. £600 was realised from a retiring offering as people left the theatre which will be equally divided between Baptist Mission Society and the Baptist Home Mission Fund which currently supports Ryde Baptist Church We all stayed behind for coffee where the feedback from the event was extremely positive. 30 of our people attended. Howard says "The overall recommendation I would make is - don't miss it next year. It's a great time to meet with God and with our Baptist family from across the Island." Dave Snelling has started an initiative, United Christian Artists Project. This is designed to enable musicians, dramatists, actors etc, on the Isle of Wight to collaborate together.
