During the summer, house groups take a break. Sometimes we go for an evening walk. The first walk in 2008 included rather a lot of bullocks!
The second was a stroll through Borthwood Copse. The red squirrels kept their distance but we admired the owls in the rescue sanctuary. August saw us on Mottistone Common where two mares brought their foals to meet us, one of just a few days old. With dusk falling we saw bats and heard the interminable throb of the nightjar. As the darkness deepened we saw several nightjars catching moths before we walked back down to the car park, scarcely needing torches.
We are planning a longer walk on Saturday September 13th. Full details to follow. We will meet in Ryde at 10:00 am to walk to Bembridge. After lunch we walk on to Brading then catch the bus back.
