Ryde Baptist Church

Our aim is to be a 24/7 resource for the neighbourhood; an area of high deprivation.  The old church building has been rebuilt to provide a community centre where we can respond to needs with practical help (including shower facilities) and loving care. We are working closely with several local statutory and charitable organisations to bring about our vision.  customers in cafe

On the ground floor the main focus is a café, staffed by trained volunteers. Many of these are very special people who would find it difficult to secure paid employment.
From the cafe there are various rooms for community use, including the Activity Suite, equipped for cooking and craft purposes.  Upstairs is the Upper Room for worship, meeting and concert use, plus a smaller room for counselling.  Several local organisations such as the NHS Health Trainer Service, Stop Smoking, and Relate make use of these rooms, plus social groups such as Bridge, Scrabble, Pilates and an Art Class. SureStart have completed a new 3 storey, multi-disciplinary Children's Centre on the back third of our site. Both they and we run a weekly carer and toddler group at the George Street Centre.
