George Street runs parallel to the main shopping area (Union Road) and the pedestrian precinct in the High Street. Walking up the pedestrian precinct through the alley next to Thorntons, the Church is beyond and to the left of Somerfields supermarket. The library (and Bus stop) is further up the hill on the opposite side of the road.
Getting to the Island: Wightlink Fastcat foot passenger ferries and hovercraft come directly to Ryde from Portsmouth and Southsea. The nearest vehicle ferry is Portsmouth to Fishbourne. There are also Red Funnel and Red Jet ferries from Southampton to Cowes.
Once on the Island, you may like to visit the many attractions: Waltzing Waters and Butterfly World are both ideal when it's pouring. But most of the time it is sunny which means you can enjoy all of the outside activities at Seaview Wildlife Encounter Flamingo Park Blackgang Chine, Amazon World, Ventnor Botanic Gardens, Calbourne Mill, Appeldurcombe Falconry Centre and the Needles. History lovers will enjoy Brading Roman Villa, Queen Victoria's favourite home, Osborne House, and seeing the window at Carisbrooke Castle from which Charles 1 attempted to escape. Not only do we have a paddle steamer and a steam railway, but also retired London Underground trains which glide from Ryde to Shanklin.
